ABA Therapy

What Is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy designed to support meaningful, lasting improvements in skills and behaviors that enhance everyday life. ABA uses individualized strategies to build helpful skills, strengthen independence, and address behaviors that may interfere with learning or daily activities.

ABA therapy can support development across many areas, including communication, social skills, learning, daily living and self-care skills, hygiene, motor skills, and other functional abilities. Treatment is tailored to each individual’s strengths, needs, and goals.

ABA principles can be used across a variety of settings—including homes, schools, clinics, and community environments—to help individuals develop practical skills and greater independence in their daily lives.

Where Are Services Provided?

Atlanta Autism Center provides ABA services in our centers.

When Is It Used?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is one of the most extensively researched, evidence-based interventions for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. When therapy begins early and is provided consistently at an intensity appropriate to the individual, ABA can support meaningful improvements in communication, social interaction, learning, independence, and everyday functioning.

ABA therapy can help individuals develop new skills, strengthen positive and functional behaviors, and reduce behaviors that interfere with learning or daily life. Treatment is individualized around each person’s strengths, needs, and goals.

An important part of ABA is generalization—helping individuals use the skills they learn across different people, places, and situations. By identifying environmental factors that may contribute to challenging behaviors and teaching effective alternatives, ABA can help individuals apply new skills more successfully at home, school, and in the community.

What to Expect

Together with our ABA team, you will:

  • Identify your child’s strengths and areas for growth, including behaviors or skills that may benefit from additional support.
  • Set clear, individualized goals based on your child’s needs and your family’s priorities.
  • Establish measurable outcomes to track progress over time.
  • Assess your child’s current skills and abilities to create an appropriate starting point for treatment.
  • Build new and functional skills while helping your child develop positive alternatives to behaviors that may interfere with learning or daily life.
  • Review progress regularly and adjust treatment strategies as your child develops.
  • Determine ongoing treatment needs and update goals based on your child’s progress.

The duration and intensity of ABA therapy are individualized and may vary depending on your child’s needs, treatment goals, and rate of progress. Ongoing assessment helps ensure that therapy continues to be responsive to your child and supports meaningful progress and greater independence.

Initiating Services

Our ABA team begins with a comprehensive assessment to better understand your child’s current abilities, strengths, needs, and goals for intervention. Once the assessment is complete, we develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your child and family.

During therapy sessions, our ABA professionals work 1:1 with your child on individualized goals while using evidence-based behavior analytic strategies to build meaningful skills and address challenging behaviors. Data is collected throughout each session to measure progress and evaluate how well interventions are working. Treatment plans and goals are regularly reviewed and adjusted based on your child’s progress and changing needs.
